UOB Malaysia Partners Bursa Malaysia To Help SMEs Decarbonise And Embrace Sustainability
In a major move to accelerate the sustainability transition among small and medium enterprises (SMEs), UOB Malaysia has announced a strategic collaboration with Bursa Malaysia to support businesses on their decarbonisation journey.
This partnership forms the core of UOB’s newly enhanced Sustainability Accelerator Programme 2.0 (SAP 2.0), which builds on the success of its 2023 pilot.
Under SAP 2.0, participating SMEs will gain access to Bursa Malaysia’s Centralised Sustainability Intelligence (CSI) Solution, designed to simplify greenhouse gas emissions reporting and aid in adopting relevant decarbonisation measures.
Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed said the collaboration with UOB Malaysia expands the CSI ecosystem beyond listed companies to benefit the broader SME community.
“These efforts are crucial in helping Malaysia transition to a low-carbon economy. We applaud UOB Malaysia for taking a leadership role and hope more financial institutions follow this path,” Fad’l said.
With Scope 3 emissions disclosures set to begin in 2027 under the National Sustainability Reporting Framework, the initiative ensures SMEs, particularly those in the supply chains of public-listed companies, are prepared for future regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
The SAP 2.0 also includes collaborations with Control Union and DHL Express Malaysia, offering services such as green certifications, logistics solutions and energy efficiency initiatives.
This initiative underscores UOB’s broader commitment to empowering SMEs and building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable business ecosystem across Malaysia.
